THIS IS VERY VERY LATE. Like a 1 month lag. BUT ANYWAYS. (photos with the black border are taken by Kegan, the noob who wants his photos to be copyrighted -.-) Mission Trip 2010 has come and gone just like that. It was my 5th time going up and even though it’s the same 2 places every year, the experience is always different. That being due to the people in the team as well as the circumstances up in Thailand. This was probably one of the most memorable trips out of the 5 :) First phase people consisted of 10 guys and 2 girls. Well, they considered Aunty Swee San a WOMAN, so technically I was the only girl there -.- But it was fun and all because the guys are super entertaining, despite them bullying me ttm! D:
First stop was shopping at Makro! Missed it the last time I went cos of my Penang trip with the family. Was in charge of getting gifts and sweets for Learning Carnival with Luther. Due to inflation (bleagh), we had to cut back A LOT on our spending and in the end welfare was close to zero. Okay 2 dozens bottled cokes, 24 cans of coke (for a games station), a tin of biscuits, a few boxes of kit kat, coffee, tea and Milo. I think that was it? NO CHIPS :( We had to unload tons of stuff before we were right under budget. :(
Anyways from the start of the trip, Lyndon made it clear he didn’t want people eating chips cos he didn’t want people to fall sick. And ironically without chips, EVEN MORE PEOPLE FELL SICK. And more serious too! So there.
I think Gerald, Luke and I were going insane on the ride up to MaeYaMin. Because it was around 6.30pm and rather dark, we weren’t used to travelling up the dirt road without the ability to see anything up ahead. So every minute or so we’d be like “I think we’re reaching!!” And every once in a while we’d see houses and signs and exclaim “YAYYYYYYYY WE’RE FINALLY HERE!!!” Bullshit la, those were just houses along the road D: So after AN HOUR of repeated“I think we’re reaching!!”, we finally arrived and as usual the kids at MaeYaMin made A LOT of noise. Just that some took about a day to warm up to our presence mhm :) Next day was Sports Carnival.
There were a limited number of players on our side and we fared SOOOOOOOOOOOO BADLY. I have no idea why but Singapore had to play 5 rounds and within those 5 rounds some of the guys were injured and Gerald even sprained his wrist I think? Cos he tripped over a rock while playing Frisbee or something during the breaks. Total score in 5 games was 24-0. No surprise which side conceded HAHA!
So yes while the guys played soccer and for some takraw and frisbee, Aunty Swee Sun did nail painting and I did friendship bands :)
Special friendship band for a special friend ^^
And when the guys were taking breaks from the sports, they helped out at the games stations.
Gave out lunch packets! The usual rice and vegetables packets :D
Carolling in the night! Within the 12 of us, we were spilt into 2 groups to carol to 45 houses each!! D: And not to mention. It rained!! For like the first time in 10 years, it rained up in Lahu >< And my group sort of did 40 houses and the other group did 50 houses teehee ^^ Church service the next day was pretty heartwarming, because I don’t know. It just felt homey…? Like all of us gathered in the small sanctuary worshipping and all.
Heh human tripod stand ftw!
Made a trip to the school cos Pastor Amnad was conducting a class for Christian hostel students there. So we sang some songs, danced Every Move and did the Duck skit. Yeah.
Some downtime we had afterwards was spent with the kids and indoors too.
Playing guitar, stoning, doing friendship bands. That was probably what the three of us did most of the time respectively during downtime HAHA :)
During some random devotion time.
Night outreach the same day. First time doing the entire run through. It went pretty well! Afterwards was some craaaaaaaaaazy camwhore session. Seriously the kids just keep photobombing hahahah it was quite amusing la :)
\
Photobombers! (N)
Nitaya & Napa :) My 2 kids since. 2007 I think?
We were supposed to have Learning Carnivals every day the next five days at 3 different schools. But the one we had to do on Wednesday was cancelled so yeah. (More on that later) This one’s at the school at MaeYaMin. I still have no idea what the name of the school is called :\

Did the math station with Nathana and Kegan!
During the last station where all the students gather together and we did this to wrap up the Learning Carnival (Luther taking charge of this)
Haha Gerald's friendship bands! The one on the left was from a year ago and the right one was what I made for him this mission trip. Notice the colour difference!!! (and apparently he said I made the left one for him during the previous trip HAHA (Y))
One random meal we had at MYM.
Simple but yummy food prepared by the helpers! Magic powder (Y) Didn't help out at the kitchen this time though :\
BAMBOO RICE :D Seriously a must try up in Thailand. It tastes like the kueh they sell in Singapore cos it's just rice + coconut milk + beans. The purple bamboo rice uses their special purple mountain rice or something.
Youtiao and maggi mee for one of the breakfasts' we had!
Our last night at MYM. Us with some of the local youths at MYM's bridge.
Kegan had this brilliant idea to do some night painting (whatever you call it) with torchlights. Pretty pretty :)
Then we came up with other ideas HAHA :D
Kegan fail (N)
YAY FOR MINE :D (which I used for the mission trippers christmas present)
Okay nothing much else happened, or I just can’t remember. But we loaded up after Tuesday’s Learning Carnival and left MaeYaMin. Omg damn sad la didn’t even get a chance to say a proper goodbye to the kids :( And the kids back in school were damn stunned too, when we shouted at them “Zher Kan Mae Pi Na” (See you next year in Thai) while we drove away from the school in the truck. Loveeeeeeeeeeeee this cat :) Even though it constantly enters our room without warning :\
The only kids to bid us farewell were Idor, Luda, Soba, and others (I can’t remember their names ><) Pon school hahaha! :)
Jay, Luther and Ying Hock left on a different truck cos they were going straight to Chiang Mai and leave the next day for Singapore. Mhm the ride to Santi didn’t feel THAT long like it felt from Chiang Mai to MYM. IT WAS EPIC SQUEEZY but still bearable la hahaha!
HAHA ^^
After Gerald switched his sitting position in the truck, we both realised we could stretch our legs (Y) But poor Luke suffered HAHA!
He got his revenge anyways ><
Natural wax (Y)
Had an awesome dinner out at some restaurant/café place.
Seriously, the omelette there is AMAAAAAAAAAAAAZING!!! Though on the menu it listed “Pork Omelette” and a plain omelette is served to us instead, IT IS JUST WOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH :D :D :D I’m probably crazy for raving about this omelette but shit man I have no idea how they cook it there. Definitely different from any normal cooking style. OR MAYBE IT’S JUST THE EGGS. I don’t know la :\ But yes it was gooooooooood :)
And Raymond was making comments of how the owners there might secretly be making snide comments to both their workers AS WELL AS US. Cos we technically do not understand their language, for the most part of it. For instance “Ha, you stupid Singaporeans. You don’t know what I just put into that food of yours. It’s actually not what you think it is. Ha. Ha so stupid.” And they could be saying it right in our faces and we wouldn’t know! Comments by Raymond are seriously win (Y)
So as I mentioned earlier, the Learning Carnival we had prepared for a school was cancelled because they were having their own Sports Day so yeah. Played some table tennis. Raymond taking note of the score. Kegan didn't upload any photos of the guys playing tennis -.-
We were getting the hang of playing Bang! after Sherwin taught us...
...but Lyndon interrupted us . He said we could help clear the area outside and stuff because on a normal basis Pastor SanChai and his wife doesn’t stay at Santi Village for the weekdays so there’s no one clean the area. And so off we did to do some area cleaning!
And of course there was some slacking involved :)
I took this shot!! Headless dog (Y) Looks quite freaky right!! HAHA but no, obviously it does have a head. Go figure.
After that we had the chance to visit this hiking resort or something.
There were chalets for hikers I guess? And the hike up the mountain takes at least around 4 days! But the scenery is fantastic! Proof from pictures they had at the reception area. Toured around the area a bit and once we hit the chalets it was a done deal man. The bunch of us just laid on the couch for like 15 minutes not doing anythingggggg. Being so tired and all. Our day’s adventure didn’t just end there. We drove down to PongNamRong school to settle our venues for the Learning Carnival stations for the next two days there. Okay we didn’t all go around exploring the school and stuff, cos we’ve been going there every year. So a few of us sat down to play checkers! Omg I was so noob at it cos I didn’t know the rules and stuff. So EVERYONE was helping me and Gerald was by himself HAHA! Team Leaf.
Team Stone. Sian my life I look ultra stone.
Afterwards we went market to buy ingredients for dinner that night! And it was a totally new experience for me because despite it being my 5th time up there, I have NEVER gone to the market before. Once we got there, we just let Sherwin and Sang do the grocery shopping while the rest of us went to explore. It’s basically a wet market, like the ones we have in Singapore. Just that it isn’t THAT wet. *Sidenote: Forgive me for my incessant rants about the food up in Lahu. I seem to have started raving about the food they have up there.*
Anyways we headed over to the cooked food area. IT WAS AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Almost everything we had was fried, oily or greasy. Only healthy-approved item we bought back for Luke (who was sick and missed out on our outing) was pancakes. But it was still good :D 3 baht for 1. That’s like about 5 cents? The best was the satay. FO SHO!!! 1 stick for 3 baht as well!!
And their milk tea there is like. WOAH. Even though it’s super super sweet but it’s damn good (Y) Haha the couple selling the milk tea and other drinks at their push cart stall were the same people we saw at dinner the previous night. And we were like “why are they here?!” kind of thing hahaha! Okay then comes the epic fail of the five of us (Kegan, Shawn, Gerald, Raymond and myself). Mostly Raymond hahaha! Cos while waiting for Sherwin and Sang, we hung around the van and saw this toy shop. In the front display was this carton of eggs, and we didn’t know if they were toy eggs or real ones cos of its weight. And the fact that they were placed next to a carton of instant noodle packets. So we were debating very long as to what it was, and Raymond was SO SURE that they were jelly eggs cos he watched this documentary a few days before the trip where people in Thailand injected some fluid thing into the egg and let it ferment or something and it would become jelly eggs! We even asked Jagsaw to help us ask the owner what it was. But I guess there was some miscommunication and he told us it was jelly eggs. Since they were selling the eggs at 5 for 20 baht (LESS THAN SGD$1), we decided to buy 5 and try it. Raymond was the first to crack it open and he tasted it, after which his comment was… “I feel so stupid right now.” Because it wasn’t jelly eggs, balut eggs, toy eggs, or whatever else we had thought of. They were SALTED EGGS. Which smelled like shit. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH (Y) Seriously the most epic fail moment of the trip man!! But we had a really good laugh over it :)
Back to Santi Village around evening and Phase 2 people came shortly after that!! Next two days were Learning Carnivals and carolling on Friday night.
Gerald looking for his pick, AS ALWAYS!!

SCUMS 2010 :)
!!!
Mission Trip dancers 2010 (Y) With some kids and Daniel photoshopped as a ghost teehee :D
Massage line!
Mhm next two days were spent at PongNamRong school doing Learning Carnivals.
I've always loved loved lovedddddddddddd the good food at PNR school. Simple and delicious :D
This was lunch the second day we were at PNR school.
Pencil ice cream!! Brings back primary school memories :)
This became like, our usual activity if we were all just sitting/standing around HAHA :D
Went back to the market on Thursday with the second phase people and Luke.

Shawn, Kegan and I tricked them into getting the salted eggs teehee ^^ I think Sarah and Luke were actually going to buy it, but we decided to be nice and stopped them just in time hahaha :D
DISGUSTING SHIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ BLEAGH UGH :( (dissected frogs ><)
Fried chicken mmyeahhhh :)
The pancakes mmmmmmm :)
Seriously, we bought like all the satays that were left no joke. The lady had about 25 sticks left or something and we just bought everything HAHA (Y)
Crickets I think...?
Silkworms. Shawn tried one of this!
Ooooh and I remember Thursday night, I think. I was super pissed off during debrief because of the comments made about Learning Carnival. Which were almost all directing at the math station. Even Nathana could sense somebody was pissed off at us during the thing itself zzz. Anyways I was in a total I-don’t-give-a-shit-right-now mood the entire night. Until Luke brought out Bang! to play. So both of us with Gerald and Kegan played it in the kitchen. And we could only whisper softly cos the helpers were sleeping next door. IT WAS EPIC FUN AND FUNNY. Cos I have no idea why, but Luke always got killed first in both rounds that we played. But it’s an amusing game to watch even after you’re out of the game so yeah :) I forgot what Luke actually said, but we were laughing so hard, that when he made a comment, Gerald happened to be drinking water and he spat EVERYTHING out of his mouth and it even came out from his nose HAHAHAHAHA! Seriously man, I thank God for friends like these to cheer me up through shitty moments :) Took an hour long ride down to Doi Saket to stay there for a night. We were scheduled to carol at night, perform Every Move at the Thanksgiving Service at the church the next day, have a Sports Carnival in the afternoon and do a night outreach too! The ride there was insaneeeeeeeely cold! Not to mention there was a slight drizzle, thus the tarp over us at the back of the truck.
Teehee so cute ^^
Ivan was brave enough to endure the entire ride OUTSIDE THE TARP. Insaneeeeeeeeeeee.
By the end of our ride HAHA crazily squished but fun :)

Quick run through before caroling that night.
Next day going to the church for their Thanksgiving service. Phoebe on Jagsaw's motorbike!
(Y)
Youths performing a song item.
Adults performing a song item too.
Us after performing Every Move and Shawn talking more about the dance and what the lyrics mean.
Visited some of the helpers houses after the service!
This was at Pastor Pisut and Sang's house.
Nathana's house.
Sports carnival later on.
Wiraphon's son. SUPER CUTEEEEEEEEEEEEE :D He loves my camera HAHA every time without fail he'd look into it when I'm taking a photo.
Teehee Nathana wearing the baby's cap!!
Most of the guys played volleyball, cos there were only 2 local teams and not many of the girls from our team wanted to play.
So while the guys (and Phoebe + Sarah + Clarice) played soccer, the rest of us did friendship bands and balloon twisting.
I learnt how to do this pattern from one of the youths there :)
Night outreach was messy but oh wells :\ Nothing much about it. Just that really, through God's goodness, the people stayed on till the end of the programme despite the ultra messiness of it and the horrible sound system and all.
Mosquito net around Luke's area cos throughout the entire trip, from Day 1, he kept getting bitten. By mysterious insects :\
Random photo of Gerald's goosebumps from being too cold HAHA!
Things weren’t as smooth sailing in Doi Saket though, because of the unexpected number that started falling sick and things not being brought. (Gerald forgot to bring his entire day bag, so he didn’t have his shirt for the dance. And Luke forgot to bring his too ><) But thank God for the people who continued to stay on for the night programme as well as His provision, because Gerald managed to borrow a pink shirt from Daniel and Luke brought his pink long sleeved shirt. It looked odd but it was manageable I guess :) Had to extend our stay by another day because we ended the night outreach too late and the sick people were too down to even move.
Back to Santi for church service on Sunday followed by a bit of down time.
What they use to call the villagers to the church when service is about to start.
Jagsaw brought us on a ride in pairs (Y) I was hesitant about this but I decided heck it. It's probably something I wouldn't get to experience again anytime soon. And so I can cancel this off from my Bucket List :) The sights that I passed by while on the ride was really awesome. Looking at the village and the surroundings from a different angle definitely gave me a whole new perspective on life. And for that I really thank God for this ride.
Night outreach again and a special BBQ dinner for the villagers as well as for ourselves :)
SHO GANGSTA.
"The sausage is on fire!" "Hey, that sounds like a title of a song!" "..."
Cleaning up afterwards.
Friends from bubble world (Y)
Packed up the next day to head back to Chiang Mai. Didn’t get to say goodbye to the kids there as well because they were at school D:
Really thank God for Caleb and Seik Ein who helped all the sick people from our team to recover (or on the way to recovering) from the virus that was spreading :)
Mission Trip 2010 ♥
Prayer before setting off for Chiang Mai.
And I just realised I didn’t take a picture with Mali this year. SHE IS SERIOUSLY DAMN HUGE. Every time I go up and see her, it was a tradition to take a shot of me carrying her. Now it’s completely impossible. She’s the one that can carry me now HAHA!
The usual curry noodles place closed down D: So we had to lunch at another coffeeshop place, which sold the similar food items.
Some R&R at highway hotel before going to Airport Plaza for some shopping! Shawn being amused at Abbie and Sarah inside the shoe shop :\
Dinner was at some restaurant which sold really good roasted chicken (Y)

Sat with some of the youths from Doi Saket’s church, which included Pastor Pisut’s daughter, Nin, and Pastor Amnad’s daughter, Nabekah.
Nin and I :)
LAWL AT RAYMOND :D I really enjoy his company every time he goes up for mission trip :D
Night market was the last destination for the night~~ Walked around a bit before we decided to get a massage! Sarah, Elaine and I got a head+back+shoulder massage for 30 minutes. The guys got the same plus foot massage for an hour!
So after we girls were done, with Clarice, we went off to do more shopping! Bought a lot more stuff this year than I did the previous time! And as expected, we didn’t meet the rest of the group in time cos we were still shopping HAHA! But we did manage to find the thai dye pants!! Bought one in purple, teal and black! We scouted the ENTIRE night market trying to find the shop that sold them! So yes very pleased with that buy :D And bought my usual rotee! (it’s basically prata) Just that they didn’t have chocolate sauce so had to make do with milo and bananas plus condensed milk. Mmmm ultra sinful :) Back to Highway Hotel to wash up and played Bang! with Sarah, Luke, Gerald and Kegan. Sarah went to sleep first cos her flight was going to be much earlier than ours. Luke was seriously sleep talking. He died first so the three of us were still playing. And throughout that round he would spout stuff that didn’t make sense like “East is Phoebe!” and afterwards he said “No wait I meant Sarah” so we were like okaaaaaaay. And after we were packing up we woke him up and he was like “Aren’t you guys still playing??” Haha he told us in the morning that he was sort of dreaming HAHA oh wells man. Intended to shower after Sarah woke me up just before she left at 6am. But I went back to sleep hahaha! Yeah Gerald gave me a wake up call and before I even had time to get ready, the guys were knocking on my door -.- Makro shopping! All of the stuff I bought weren’t for me but for those who had to leave early and couldn’t go to Makro. Seaweed Lays for Phoebe, Sarah and Abbie. Lychee Pocky for Sarah, Shereen and Abbie. Milk Chocolate with Almonds Pocky, Strawberry Pocky (the one with like strawberry bits) and Koala chocolate biscuits for Abbie! [and the family] It was amazing how I could stuff all those into a small luggage, cos the Seaweed Lays took up SO MUCH SPACE, since there’s a lot of air in it. Skillzx plox. (Before and after packing)
Thanked the helpers before going to the airport.
Blizzards (Y)
!!!
YAY FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY :D
Finally finished Luke's friendship band on the plane back HAHA!
Full trip people (missing Swee San) back at Changi Airport Awwwww I love this photo :) During the transition period, when Phase One people left and before Phase Two people arrived, I felt like we were this cosy small/big family. With all the inside jokes and stuff, I really love this bunch of friends and their company :)
Mhm cabbed back home with Sherwin and I just knocked out for 6 hours. I realised after waking up that Liz had planned to fetch me, but was given the wrong timings. My flight landed at 4pm but Shereen had told her it landed at 6pm >< So she was pissed off the entire day. But I think she cheered up the next day when she saw the Koala biscuits (one of her favourites) on the table heehee ^^ Yeah that practically marks the end of my mission trip experience in 2010.
There are countless of lessons and thanksgivings I have from gained from this trip. But the most important thanksgiving I have was that I DIDN'T FALL SICK. Seems like a simple thanksgiving, but honestly, it was the biggest contributing factor as to why this trip was one of the most memorable.
Every year I go up, WITHOUT FAIL I would fall sick. ALWAYS. And it was frustrating all the time because I would start doubting God and why He would allow me to fall sick especially during that period when I'm up there to do His work. It's like, I hardly fall sick at all here in Singapore and I only fall sick when I'm up in Lahu. And this would always hinder me from giving my 100% every time and, I don't know. It's just very restricting.
This year, because I didn't fall sick, I experienced much more than ever before. Despite carolling being one of the things I hate about every mission trip, I gave my all at each house we went to. And I actually felt this certain sense of joy in me, which led me to keep spreading God's joy and love to the people through the songs we did. Not only that, the energy level I had in me was the same high from the first house we went to till the last. I know I definitely couldn't have done this if I was sick, and through God's strength, I could. Seriously, I was crazily happy during mission trip afterglow when under the evaluation form, I could finally, FOR THE FIRST TIME, put a '10' under general health (and 10 being the best). It's crazy how important health is during trips like these, and through this I definitely appreciate it much more. And I'm sure half (or more) of my fellow mission trippers would agree with me, as I mentioned above that a lot of them fell sick because of some virus that was spreading. Even during afterglow, they were sharing of how restricted they were when they were down and all. So yes, one of the many thanksgiving I have :) Okay I have no idea when the next time I'll blog, but we'll see how things go :)
